In 2013, we launched Safe Schools in partnership with Save the Children and Plan International. This disaster risk reduction programme was inspired by the conviction that providing emergency relief is not enough. Resilience must be built before a disaster occurs.


Launched in the Philippines, the programme empowers students, teachers and governments with vital knowledge and skills, making entire communities more resilient in the face of natural disasters. Now a global initiative, it also supports the targets set out in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development Goals.

Impact

The programme has directly benefitted over 90,000 children and 42,000 adults, training them in Disaster Preparedness, with an additional indirect benefit to over 200,000 community members.
